Ore Mountains

Winter and summer recreation

Ore Mountains form natural boarder with Germany in North West of our republic. They are situated in length of approximately 140 km between Kynšperk nearly to Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Mountains are shelving slowly to Saxony on German side; on the contrary slopes on Czech side are steeper. Due to intensive volcanic activity in past Ore Mountains are plenteous of mineral springs and metal ores. Mining in this area was fixated to producing of silver and tin, it achieved the biggest importance in 16th century. In present time Ore Mountains are searched object of summer and winter recreation. You find here excellent conditions for sports, many natural, historical and technical monuments.

Klínovec (1244 m)

Highest mount and also the biggest ski resort of Ore Mountains is Klínovec, height 1244 m. Visitors can enjoy there slopes with total length 9 km. Its steeper slopes are suited mainly for skilled and demanding skiers. From Jáchymov you can get to Klínovec by chair lift, which overcome 428 m elevation and is opened daily except Monday from 9 AM till 4 PM.

Whether you decide to visit Ore Mountains in winter or in summer, surely you will not regret. Lovers of snow can discover many resorts of winter recreation, for example Boží Dar with popular resort Neklid, Jáchymov, Abertamy, Pernink and others. In spring and in summer Ore Mountains are ideal for bike tourism and mountain tourism. If you prefer cognition of historical monuments, then you can admire numerous ruins in Ore Mountains forests, castes and chateaus (for example romantic Loket or Duchcov, favourite seat of Casanova) or you can visit and view world known spa Karlovy Vary and taste local mineral springs.
